WBC has joined with Direct Communications (Unitel) to seek funding in as a Public Private Partnership

WBC Director Broadband Update December 2023

Maine Connectivity Authority has ratified the recommendation of the Last Mile Infrastructure Grants Committee. The LMIC is the subcommittee of the MCA that reviews and recommends grant funding. The grant amount from MCA is $10,867,737 and a contribution of $4,517,000 from Direct Communications for a total project cost of $15,384,737.

As the timelines and details are confirmed we will post additional material and updates on the website.

The WBC board will be meeting with MCA and DCR as soon as possible to discuss all the details of the grant. We know that many of you will have lots of questions. In order to gather all the information and give you the most informed answers we are going to wait until January to hold a public meeting.

We would like to thank all those that contributed in helping bring broadband to our 5 communities. It has been a long and often difficult journey since the formation of the Southwestern Waldo County Broadband Coalition, culminating  with the formation of a public/private partnership with Direct Communication (Unitel).

There is still a lot of work to be done, but it gives us great pleasure to inform and share with you the good news.
